About
Ritrova Therapeutics Inc. aims to develop novel treatments for several neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's disease, frontotemporal dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Angelman syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder.
Ritrova is developing new therapeutics by targeting a major problem common to those diseases, i.e., overaccumulation of proteins in the brain. While each disease accumulates distinct types of proteins in distinct brain regions and circuitry, their common cell biological problem is protein accumulation. Thus far, most therapeutics that aimed at developing treatment for those diseases have focused on reducing the specific proteins that accumulate in each disease. Ritrova's new therapies, instead, aim at preventing and/or treating the diseases by targeting an upstream mechanism that controls protein metabolism in the brain. Ritrova’s treatments’ goal is to rebalance brain protein metabolism and prevent or clear the accumulation of toxic proteins therefore restoring healthy brain functions.
